Youth Ministries at Apostolic Faith UPC
Our Youth department ministers to teens and college age young people. Faith and fellowship are the ties that bind this group together, under the capable leadership of their youth pastor, Rev. Brandon Abernathy. Opportunities for fun and recreation are found on a weekly basis, but the real focus is
spiritual training and Bible education. Strong and solid Christian youth is our goal at JCUPC; producing young adults who are forever committed to Jesus Christ is our highest priority.
JCUPC Youth agree that it is a positive characteristic of Christians to be unique from all other peoples on the earth. Their motto is: "Never Underestimate the Power of Being Different." And they have adopted the group name "The Peculiars", taken from the scripture "For ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people. . . " I Peter 2:9.
Youth Pastor:
Rev. Brandon Abernathy came to JCUPC in 2004. Previously, Bro. Abernathy had grown up on the mission field in Africa. He then attended Indiana Bible College, receiving an Associate Degree.
He married Adrian Gray from Bloomington, IN, and they moved to Pana, Illinois to serve as principle of the Pana Christian Academy for three years. They then went to Zambia, Africa for a one year term as Associates In Missions (AIM).
JCUPC is very happy that Bro. and Sis. Abernathy then accepted our invitation to come to Johnston City to serve as Youth Pastor. They have been such a blessing to the youth and to the entire church. We are thankful for their leadership and their love and concern for our young people. They have also given us Gavin Lee, the wonder child and future man-of-God. He is now three years old.
Special Events:
Youth Convention takes place every year in the Spring, just before Easter weekend. Over one thousand youth attend the convention which features preaching and classes specifically tailored to the needs of young people in today's world. Plenty of fellowship included.
Youth Congress sponsored by the United Pentecostal Church, Int'l, happens once every two years in August. We load up the vans and travel to a major city somewhere in the U.S. The crowds are huge, in the neighborhood of 10,000. Lots of preaching and special sessions, fellowship, some sight-seeing and shopping.
