Water baptism
Water baptism is a necessary step in New Testament salvation. It brings remission (washing away) of sins (Acts 2:38) and is the birth of water that Jesus spoke of in John 3:5. A prerequisite to water baptism is repentance. The individual must first turn from their previous life of sin; then they are to be baptized.

The Bible way to administer baptism is by immersion in water in the name of Jesus Christ. The book of Acts describes the specific method of Christian baptism, and in every instance the name of Jesus Christ is spoken over the candidate. Many New Testament scriptures point out the necessity of baptism and the importance and power of the Name of Jesus Christ.

Water baptism (continued from left column)

History tells us that some years after the death of the apostles the method of baptism was altered by church leaders for the sake of convenience. The practice was changed entirely to require only sprinkling, and the titles "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost" were substituted for the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

To discover God's full salvation plan, a seeker must be willing to study the scriptures and not be swayed by the traditions of men and denominations. Absolute truth and obedience to it should be the highest priority when considering what God requires of us.

The Apostolic Faith

To be Apostolic is to be "like the Apostles." It is to preach the same message and to teach the same spiritual truths. The Apostles sermons and teachings are recorded in the book of Acts, and their letters are preserved in the New Testament.

We place great importance in the words of the Apostles because Jesus did. Jesus taught them and prepared them to carry out His gospel and spread it into all the world. He left His work in their hands. And they fulfilled His command.

The Apostle Peter summed it up in the first message preached by one of the Apostles. In reply to the question "What must we do?" Peter said, "Repent and baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2;38) Read "The Keys".

Today, those of the Apostolic Faith preach exactly the same gospel message.

Our God
The Fundamental Bible truth about God is that He is one. There is none beside Him.

God has made Himself known to man through various means. In the Old Testament He spoke directly to righteous men, such as Noah and Abraham. He used chosen leaders like Moses and Joshua. He also guided his people through prophets, priests and kings.

His most awesome revealing of Himself came at Bethlehem, when He came to the world as the Christ Child, Jesus. Through His death, burial and resurrection He redeemed fallen man from the penalty of sin.

Today, He reveals Himself to man through His Holy Word, the Bible. God wants us to know Him through a very personal relationship. We can walk and talk with God, and live a life that pleases Him.

The Bible
They Holy Bible is the perfect Word of God that has been preserved for mankind throughout the ages of time. It is without error and contains the plan of God, the purpose of God, the passion of God, and the principals of God.

The Bible should be read by the individual, taught by the church, and lived and obeyed by every Christian. It is our guide and roadmap. Its directions have never grown outdated or irrelevant.

The Bible is not to be added to or taken away from by any man. Those who handle it carelessly or pervert its message will face the displeasure of its writer, the Almighty God.

According to the last book of the Bible, Revelation, on Judgement Day, men will be judged by what is written in the 66 books of the Bible.

Jesus said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" (Matt. 24:35)

Apostolic/Pentecostal Worship

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit baptism is a gift from God to the new believer. It is the Promise that the disciples waited earnestly for until it was outpoured on the Day of Pentecost. That day, 3000 men, women, and children received the the Holy Ghost baptism. And Peter, preaching the first Pentecostal message, said that this experience is promised "to all who are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a life-changing experience. It is a necessary step in the salvation plan, being the in-dwelling presence and power of Jesus Christ. The "new-birth" is incomplete until the believer is born of the Spirit. There is no substitute.

The sign of the Holy Spirit infilling has always been "speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance." It is the sign that God chose and therefore is not subject to the opinions of man. It is indeed a supernatural experience and cannot be understood by those who have not received it.

For those who believe and receive the wonderful gift of the Holy Ghost, it is "Rest and Refreshing", "Oil in the Lamp", "Bread from Heaven", "Light, Wind, and Living Water!
